1. The Faculties shall constitute the Boards of Courses and Studies in the
subjects taught in the Department assigned to them.
2. (i) Appointment of Boards of Courses and Studies—Boards of
Courses in the following subjects and Studies shall be appointed by the
Faculties noted against them.

3. (i) Constitution of Boards of Courses and Studies—Ech
Board of Courses and Studies in the Faculties of Arts. Science and Medicine
shall consists of—
(a) the Head of the University Department Chairman-ex-officio.
(b) not more than two external experts appointed by the Faculty.
(c) not more than seven teachers of the subject in the University to be
elected by the Faculty.
Provided That-—
(1) In the Board of Courses and Studies in English there shall be two
additional members one of whom will be an expert in French and the other an
expert in German.
(2) In the Board of Courses and Studies in Hindi there shall be one
additional member, who will be an expert in Nepali.
(3) In the Board of Courses and Studies in Surgery there shall be two
additional members, one of whom will be an expert in Anaesthesia and the other
an expert in orthopaedic Surgery, both to be appointed by the Faculty.
(4) In the Board of Courses and Studies in Medicine, there shall be two
additional members one of whom will be an expert in paediatrics and the other an
expert in Social and Preventive Medicine, both to be appointed by the Faculty.
(5) In the Board of Courses and Studies in Pathology there shall be one
additional member who will be an expert in Forensic Medicine to be appointed by
the Faculty.
(6) In the Board of Courses and Studies in Physiology there shall be an
additional member who will be an expert in Bio-Chemistry to be appointed by the
Faculty.
(7) In the cases of subjects in which there is no University Department
the Chairman of the Board shall be the Dean, if he is the member of the Board
and in all other cases the senior most teacher of the University, shall act as
the Chairman.
3. (ii) Board of Courses and Studies in the Facutly of
Commerce shall consist of—
(a) Head of the University Department of
Applied Economics and Commerce as Chairman-ex-officio,
(b) Three members to be elected by the
Faculty of Commerce from

amongst teachers of the subject in the University.'
(c) One member to be appointed by the
Facutly of Commerce from amongst the members of any other Faculty.
(d) Two external experts to be
appointed by the Faculty of Commerce.
3. (iii) Board of Courses and Studies in the Faculty
of Engineering shall consist of—
(a) Dean of the Faculty of Engineering
as Chairman-ex-officio.
(b) Not more than four external expert
to be elected by the Faculty one from each branch (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical
and Mathematics.).
(c) Not more than fourteen teachers of
the University to be elected by the Faculty.
3. (iv) Board of Courses and Studies in the Faculty of
Education shall consist of—
(a) The Head of the University
Department of Education,
(b) Principal, Patna Training College,
(c) Principal, Women's Training
College,
(d) One external expert to be
appointed by the Faculty,
(e) Five members of the Faculty to be
elected from amongst its own members or from outside.
The Dean of the Facutly of Education shall be the ex-officio Chairman of
the Board.
3. (v) Board of Courses and Studies in the Faculty of
Law shall consist of—
(a) Head of the University Department
of Law,
(b) Principal, Patna Law College,
(c) Two external experts to be
appointed by the Faculty,
(d) Six members to be elected by the
Faculty of whom at least four must be teachers of the subject in the University.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law shall be the ex-officio Chairman of the
Board.
3. (vi) A member of the Board shall hold office from
the date of his election or appointment for a period of one year.
3. (vii) No person shall be a member of more than
three Boards.
4. Election of members—(i)The election of members of a
Boards shall take place at the first meeting of the Faculty concerned after the
Annual meeting of the Senate.
(ii) At the said meeting each member of the Faculty
shall be entitled to propose for election to each Board appointed by the said
Faculty not more names than there are places to be filled on the Board by the
Faculty. If the number of members proposed exceeds the number of places to be
filled by the said Faculty an election shall be held in the manner prescribed
hereunder.
In every election for filling a vacancy or vacancies in Board of Courses
and
Studies, a ballot box shall be provided at a fixed place in the Senate Hall for
the
casting of votes by the members of the Faculty present at the meeting who shall
receive the voting papers from the Chairman, mark the voting paper in privacy
and

cast their Votes in the ballot box before resuming their seats.
5. Joint meeting—The Vice-chancellor or the Dean of a
Faculty may call upon two or more Boards to meet together for the disposal of
question affecting such Boards.
6. President of the Board- (1) The Chairman of the
Board shall preside at the meeting of the Board. In his absence the members
present shall elect a Chairman.
6. (ii) Where two or more Boards are required to meet
jointly under this Statute, the joint meeting shall elect its own Chairman.
7. Records to be kept—The Chairman shall record the
proceedings of each meeting and shall forward the same to the Registrar as soon
as possible after the meeting.
8. Convening of meeting-(1) There shall be at least
two meetings of each Board every year.
(ii) The Vice-Chancellor in consultation with the Chairman of a Board
shall direct the Registrar to convene meetings of the Board of Courses and
Studies.
9. Quorum at meeting- (i) Three members of a
Board shall constitute a quorum.
(ii) One fourth of members of the Boards meeting jointly shall constitute
a quorum for the meetings of joint Boards.
10. Duties of Board—Each Board shall- (1) recommend to
the Faculty, the Syllabii of studies for the various courses of Universities
examinations of the University in the subject or subjects with which the Board
is concerned.
(2) consider and report upon all such matters as may be referred to it by
the Faculty, the Dean, the Vice-Chancellor, the Academic Council or the Senate.
11. (i) Each Board of Courses and Studies in the
Faculties of Arts, Science, Law, Commerce and Education shall recommend annually
two Boards of Moderators one for the post-graduate and another for the
under-graduate examinations in the subject or subjects with which the Board is
concerned.
11. (ii) The Board of Courses and Studies in the
Faculty of Engineering shall recommend annually six Boards of Moderators, one
each in the subjects mentioned hereunder:
1. Civil Engineering
2. Electrical Engineering
3. Mechanical Engineering
4. Mathematics
5. Natural Sciences
6. Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences.
11. (iii) The Boards of Courses and Studies in the
Faculty of Medicine named hereunder shall recommend annually Boards of
Moderators noted against them.
